FLECTI NON FRANGI – May we bend but not break

If you are looking for a home schooled environment, look no further.
Our children wear a basic uniform.
Private extra mural activities available: Soccercize and Dance Mouse - both are suitable for boys and girls.
SCHOOL VALUES: We believe in a clear moral code of politeness, fairness, sharing and taking turns.  This is relayed to the child continually throughout the day and are non-negotiable rules in school. OUR 5 GOLDEN RULES:
  1. No bullying (NO hitting, kicking, pushing etc.)
  2. Good manners
  3. Good listening skills
  4. Respect for teachers, adults, peers and friends
  5. Be kind and share (sharing is caring)
We have implemented the “My Manners” programme into our school and it forms part of the weekly curriculum. It is a fun, interactive way of introducing young children to the benefits of behaving and using manners that are universally accepted.  The programme will demonstrate that behaving in a particular way will ensure that you are liked by your teachers, accepted by your friends and you will have a better chance in life – a well-mannered child that becomes a well-mannered adult has an enormous advantage over his/her peers. The curriculum includes lessons on bullying, name calling, communication skills, table manners, bossiness, good team work, personal safety, the magic words, healthy eating, the importance of telling the truth, personal hygiene, consideration for others feelings, sharing, taking turns, bad language,  respect for self and others to name a few important considerations. It is imperative that they be introduced to the concepts and benefits of good manners and good behaviour if they are to have a chance at creating a good, honest and meaningful life where caring and consideration for others is second nature. DISCIPLINE AT SCHOOL If a child hurts a friend, is not listening to the teacher, is disrespectful, throwing or breaking items, damaging school property or using bad language or hand signs then we will implement the time out system. We work on a cause and consequence system whereby the child will in all instances be aware of the rule prior to being placed in time out. We will always go down to the eye level of the child.  Explain to them what they have done wrong and explain that they will now be in time out for that reason. The time out rule is 1 minute per year in age. The child will always be within eyesight of a staff member. We will request the child to apologise for the transgression. With a hug and reassurance the child returns to play or class. We will not advise you every time that your child has sat in time out, however if we find that time out is not working for your child then we will approach you as the parent/guardian to assist us with other forms of consequences e.g. no TV or no special treat, to help us sort out the problem. We will advise you, however, if a child has seriously hurt another child – verbally or physically. DAY TO DAY DISCIPLINE STRATEGIES The class teacher handles day-to-day discipline within the classroom by:   Winning the trust and respect and trust of the pupil. Setting clear boundaries, what is acceptable and what is unacceptable. Discuss and record behaviour boundaries with the entire class. Set class goals for the week, term and year. Set individual/personal goals. HEALTH AND SAFETY:
  • The health and safety of the children is of top priority for all staff concerned.
  • The floors, bathrooms, kitchenette and classrooms are maintained throughout the day.
  • The entire school is mopped, dusted and cleaned daily.
  • The sandpit is treated with coarse salt to disinfect the sand.
  • There are fire extinguishers placed at strategic points. These are serviced annually.
  • The front gate access to the school is kept closed at all times.
  • The security gates to access the classroom areas are kept locked at all times if not being manned.
  • No unknown, unspecified person/s may collect a child from school without prior arrangements.
  • Parents, transport services are to deliver the child into
