He was employed by LTA/Murray & Roberts as a civil construction general foreman and was in charge of the construction of a few major bridges in the Nature's Valley area. He joined Speyers Construction in 1984 as a general foreman in the housing sector and spent a good few years there. He was in charge of projects such as the Echo retirement village in Summerstrand where in excess of 100 cottage s were constructed. In 1990 Andre realised that he had built up enough experience, both in the civil as well as the domestic fields, to offer clients professional service and thus Andre Blom Builders was established. He has since then completed a vast number of contracts, mainly homes of distinction in Summerstrand and Lovemore Heights and various other areas. One major and successful contract was the Eye and Laser Clinic in Cape Road. Andre's son, Jaques, joined his father in 1995 and this has enabled the company to grow to the trusted name it is in Port Elizabeth.
