What you should know about CEREBRAL PALSY ASSOCIATION (EC)

The Hambisela programme of the Cerebral Palsy Association (Eastern Cape) was in 2012 the recipient of the Discovery Foundation Excellence Award. The award was made in recognition of the Hambisela programme, and to enable the Association to further implement the Hambisela programme in the Eastern Cape. Established in 2006 as one element of Discovery Holdings’ black economic empowerment transaction, the Discovery Foundation is an independent trust that is investing over R100 million in grants towards developing South Africa’s scarce specialist healthcare resources. Since then, the Discovery Foundation has already committed R50 million in grants supporting almost 100 specialists in training, as well as to eleven high-achieving healthcare institutions in South Africa. Watch the Hambisela programme video produced as part of the Discovery Foundation Excellence Award programme. KnowCP serves the needs of our community for information and knowledge on cerebral palsy, and our need for connection to resources that can assist us face and overcome the challenges on cerebral palsy in our lives. If you have information or knowledge you would like to share, send it to us. Also, if you don’t find something you are looking for, let us know. We always have to work within the constraints of budget, time and available resources, but we pledge to always strive within those constraints to meet the needs of our community in cerebral palsy. Our Association strives to build and maintain a layered and tiered sustainability plan, including layers of funders (corporate sponsors, trusts and estates, public campaigns, events, National Lottery, service sales). Each of these layers are tiered into different levels of funding, with senior sponsors identifying as lead sponsors of projects, through to mid-tier and entry-tier sponsors. This design is intended to enable the Association to operate sustainably over time, providing a long-term relationship with funders, but at the same time without developing over-dependence on individual funders. The Association continually identifies potential sponsors and motivates for new sponsorship. Annual public events & campaigns provide a baseline of community-based funding to the Association. National Lottery funding is utilised towards general overheads as well as project-specific activities. Variable project activities are usually undertaken only subject to committed funding availability. The Association also generates income from sales of specialist services (training, consultations), and is actively developing this source of income.
