We have undertaken a number of initiatives to reduce our carbon footprint. Industrial Dry Milling (Pty) Ltd (IDM) was established in 1997 in Pretoria, with the aim of Manufacturing an SABS approved range of bagged cement products. Since our inception we have been at the forefront of the Independent cement producers market. This was achieved through a long period of intensive research and development. The result is that IDM can now boast the best blended cement products outside of the traditional cement industry. We take pride in offering a quality service that remains approachable and adaptable to our customer’s needs. We feel that our delivery capability and speedy response adds definitive value to our product. Our approach to customers is more direct in that our management as well as our representatives are more in touch with customers and their needs. To this end we welcome collections from our site and we endeavour to deliver the best products and service. We extended our group of companies by adding this milling operation to produce our own Slagment, compliant to SABS specifications in terms of chemical analysis and blaine. This was achieved through a period of research and development that was both costly and painstaking. IDM has made every effort to ensure that our products are environmentally friendly, as well as excellent value for money. IDM Cement is your go-to cement for both quality and cost effectiveness. The unique blending process performed results in a homogeneous blend with rapid hardening cement characteristics in terms of its fineness. IDM Cement has its own state of the art milling operation. IDM Cement is the only blender that can produce a slag compliant to SABS and NRCS specifications in terms of chemical analysis and blaine. Raw Slag (GBFS): Glass blast furnace slag manufactured from the by-product of iron production is transported in on tippers everyday from Mittal. When the Raw Slag (GBFS) leaves the dryer there is a de-dusting unit (bag house) that contains the dust from going into the environment. The dried Raw Slag (GBFS) then gets conveyed and dropped into a dry holding bin. The dry Raw Slag (GBFS) then gets fed into the mouth (in-feed) of the ball mill. (An additive is added to aid the grinding process.) It moves through the ball mill, during this process the slag gets finely ground by the metal balls falling against the liners on the inside of the mill. At the foot (exit) of the mill the Milled Slag gets screw conveyed to a bucket elevator and dropped into one of two 200 ton silos. There is a de-dusting unit (bag house) at the exit of the mill that contains the dust from going into the environment.
