During the University recess deliveries will only take place in the morning. Postal Services will re-direct the mail of staff and students when provided with an. If there is no forwarding address mail will be returned to sender. The use of the service is limited to official staff of the University conducting official business. Where possible please make use of internal mail/campus mail envelopes/brown envelopes or re-use received envelopes. Mail items sent through on the official University cost centre and account numbers may be opened and inspected to assure compliance with the restrictions on the use of the service. The accuracy of the addresses of outgoing mail affects the speed and handling of mail. No postcode or an incorrect postcode can result in a postal article not being delivered. When sending international mail the country’s name must appear on the last line of the address. Addresses should be typewritten or printed clearly in black or blue ink and should be printed horizontally. The correct return postal address must appear clearly on the back of the envelope and the contents of the envelope should be folded in such a way that the entire envelope is filled. Parcels must be securely wrapped to prevent damage and the proper declarations regarding the contents and value of parcels must be given. Each department is responsible for the preparation of its own mail, including addressing, placing in envelopes and completing the necessary forms unless otherwise arranged with Postal Services. Acquistions Section which is responsible for selecting, ordering and receiving finite information resources for the library collection to meet the needs of NMMU's clientele in the most economical and expeditious manner. Cataloguing and Classification Section which is responsible for coding and organizing library materials according to their subject and allocating a call number according to the Library of Congress classification system (for the Port Elizabeth branch libraries) and the Dewey Decimal Scheme (for the George library), and ensuring that the resources are accessible through the online catalogue. The physical processing of all materials is also handled in this section. The Serial Publications Section which is responsible for the administration of specialized periodic publications including scholarly journals, trade periodicals and newspapers to meet the needs of NMMU’s clientele, including scholarly researchers.
