He was taken into the employ. The name PEKELHARING became linked to all aspects of Pipe Organ building in South Africa in 1952 when Mr J.H. Pekelharing [senior] arrived in Potchefstroom after having received his training from the dutch firm Jos Vermeulen.

He was taken into the employ of Muller Pipe Organs. Pekelharing became appointed as senior Organ builder and voicer. His son Jan Pekelharing began work for SAOB where he was trained by his father and in 1983 was appointed as representative in Port Elizabeth, where Pekelharing Organ Building was established. Jan Pekelharing Organ Building was established in 1984 with headquarters in Port Elizabeth. Our service area was originally limited to the Eastern Cape boundry, but as opportunity allowed the area was enlarged and now includes the Eastern, Western and Southern cape boundaries. Many tuning and maintenance contracts in these areas result in them being visited regularly. Both of Jan Pekelharing’s sons Sebastian and Daniel were trained in Port Elizabeth as Organ builders. The management of Jan Pekelharing Organ Building was handed to Sebastian and Daniel and the business was renamed to Pekelharing Organ Building in Installation and maintenance of electronic control systems (capture, MIDI, etc). We also perform repair work on harmoniums (reed/pump organs). The Moravian Church in Arcadia, Port Elizabeth, purchased a second hand pipe organ, this organ was reconstructed with a new casing. The reconstruction and installation work was completed in The construction work began in 1996 and would take 3 years before finally being completed in For regular maintenance and tuning our service area is currently within the Eastern and Western Cape. we are generally prepared to travel anywhere subject to scheduling. This can differ greatly from organ to organ and is largely affected by the climate and composition of the pipe organ. Reed stops notoriously have less tuning stability than flue stops. We generally recommend at least once but preferably twice per year. Our normal tuning service entails correctional tuning and voicing as necessary, this means we will not alter the general tuning pitch or character of the organ as these would be far more time intensive tasks. We also perform basic maintenance together with our regular tuning, this would include minor repairs especially where no spare components are required.
